Better Business Blueprint: Step 3 – Formation

This step is simple: register your business with your state’s Secretary of State. This is what legally creates your business. Everything else comes after this is approved. You’ll choose your business name, submit your formation documents, and pay the filing fee. Once it’s approved, your business officially exists.
After you file, there will be a short waiting period, usually a couple of weeks. This is completely normal and part of the process. During this time, nothing else needs to be filed yet. You’re just waiting for your approval to come through so you can move on to federal steps like your EIN.
While you wait, use this time productively by continuing to build out your operational pieces so that once your registration is finalized, and you’re able to obtain your EIN, you can move forward smoothly without delays. Focus on the smaller, more time-consuming details that don’t require a finalized setup yet, like drafting menus or service lists, creating graphics, setting up social media pages, writing descriptions, and organizing your processes. These are often the things that get pushed off, but having them ready now will make your next steps much easier.
If you’ve worked through everything you can at this stage, it’s also okay to take a breather. You’ve put in the groundwork, and what comes next will move quickly, so giving yourself a moment to reset now will only help you step into the next phase ready to go.
If you want guidance through this process or just want to make sure you’re setting everything up correctly from the start, you can schedule a consultation.
